Today we took a long walk through Italy, passed through San Marino (home to over 100 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners), and arrived in Austria, home to over 4,100 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners. Our walk took us 1,030.25 km together and we arrived in Klagenfurt, Austria. Klagenfurt is a city in southern Austria which translates to ford of lament, thought to be in reference to the legend of fairies and demons that lived in the nearby swamp.

Day 177

Today we ventured further north through Italy, walking along the west coast. We walked 291.50 km together and we arrived in Acciaroli, Italy. Acciaroli is a hamlet on the coast of Tyrrhenian Sea and is a part of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park.

Day 176

Today we set off from Tunis and took a virtual ferry ride to Malta (home to over 2,600 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners) and then took another virtual ferry ride to Sicily. We walked 245.75 km back into Italy and arrived in Scilla, Italy. Scilla gets its name from Scylla, the six dog-headed monster from Greek mythology who was said to live on the rock of Scilla.

Today we headed out of Libya and arrived in Tunisia, home to over 6,200 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners. Our walk took us 520.25 km and we arrived in Medenine, Tunisia. Medenine is a town in south eastern Tunisia and is recognizable as the filming location for many of the desert town scenes filmed for Star Wars:  Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Today we continued on our way through Libya. We walked a total of 301.25 km together and arrived in Abugrein, Libya. Abugrein is a village in northern Libya at the crossroads of the Libyan Coastal Highway and the Fezzan Road. It also is known as Abu Qurayn and El Hisha El Jadida.

Today we left Jordan, passed back through Israel and arrived in Egypt, home to over 39,800 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners. Our walk today took us 436.50 km together and we arrived in Ismailia, Egypt. Ismailia – also known as the City of Beauty and Enchantment – is on the west bank of the Suez Canal and first founded in 1863 (during the construction of the Suez Canal).
