Today we made our way  out of Sudan and into South Sudan, home of 4 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners! Our walk today took us 572.75 km and we arrived in the city of Yirol, South Sudan. Yirol is located in central South Sudan on the shore of Lake Yirol, which provides water for the city’s people and livestock!

Day 122

Today we continued our walk through Sudan – after walking 474.50 km today, we arrived in Kadugli, Sudan! Kadugli is the capital city of South Kordofan State and is located at the northern edge of the White Nile plains!

Day 121

Today we wrapped up our walk north through Nigeria and entered Chad, home to over 250 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners. From there we entered Sudan, home to over 3,500 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners. We wrapped our day after walking 1,694.75 km together in En Nahud, Sudan. En Nahud is a small town in the desert of central Sudan!

Day 120

Today we headed to the south coast of Nigeria and took a virtual ferry ride over to Equatorial Guinea – home to over 50 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners. We did a loop through the country before returning to another virtual ferry ride back to Nigeria. From there it was another walk north, where we wrapped up our 1,923.75 km day in Maiduguri, Nigeria. Maiduguri is the capital city of Borno State and was first founded as a military outpost in 1907!

Day 119

Today we set of from Niger and entered Nigeria – home to over 26,500 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners! We walked south through the country and arrived in Makurdi, Nigeria after walking 1,449.75 km together. Makurdi is the capital of Benue state and features a Nigerian Air Force base!

Day 118

Today we wrapped up our walk through Benin and crossed into Niger, home to over 30 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners. We walked a total of 443.25 km today and arrived in Boumba, Niger. Boumba is a town in southern Niger along the Niger River just across the border from Benin!

Day 117

Setting off from Ghana today, we walked through:

  • Burkina Faso, home to over 3,200 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners
  • Togo, home to over 4,600 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners
  • Benin, home to over 2,200 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners

We wrapped up our 715.75 km day in Djougou, Benin – Djougou is the largest city in northwestern Benin and is an important market city in the area!

Today we set off and walked into Ghana, which is home to over 10,000 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners! Our walk today took us 426.25 km together and we arrived in Tamale, Ghana. Tamale is in the Northern Region of Ghana and is the fastest growing city in Western Africa!

Today we walked out of Liberia and arrived in Côte d’Ivoire! Côte d’Ivoire is home to over 11,000 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners! Our walk today took us 596.75 km and we arrived in the town of Daoukro, Côte d’Ivoire!

Today we left Guinea and arrived in Liberia! Liberia is home to over 150 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners! Our walk today stretched an impressive 891.75 km and we arrived in the city of Sanniquellie, Liberia. Sanniquellie is in north-east Liberia and is the capital city of Nimba County!
