We put in some impressive distance today! Starting from Bala, we walked 1,781.50 km together – this had us walking all around southern Ontario, visiting many towns and cities that are part of Walk the World With Me! We passed through the Sunshine City (Orillia) on the shoes of Lake Simcoe then through Barrie where we received a special welcome from the Barrie Police! We then walked past Collingwood and Blue Mountain, which some of the alpine skiing athletes might be familiar with! It was then further south past Guelph, Waterloo Region and then through London, before swinging past Sarnia and Windsor on our way to Point Pelee National Park. We were in the northernmost settlement in Canada just two weeks ago, and now we’ve reached the southernmost point of Canada!
From Point Pelee, we headed east through Chatham-Kent on our way to Niagara Falls – the most powerful waterfall in North America! We then walked our way back west, heading through Burlington (who have some impressive walkers with Team Burlington, having walked almost 1,800km to date!) and into Toronto – past the CN Tower and Rogers Centre. We finished off the day’s walk in Kingston, Ontario – which is great timing! We’ll have a brief rest here to help celebrate the first ever Special Olympics Ontario Virtual School Championships, which are being hosted by the Kingston Police! We invite everyone walking with us to tune in to the Opening Ceremony, taking place on the School Championships Facebook Live starting at 6PM EDT on Tuesday, June 16th! There’s plenty of virtual events taking place as part of the School Championships, so why not try some of them in between your walks? Click here for full details on all of the virtual events!
