From Fairbanks, Alaska we continued our walk today, venturing further north through Alaska towards the Arctic Ocean. After a full day of walking, travelling 713.75 km together, we reached our destination of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Located on the coast of the Arctic Ocean, Prudhoe Bay is adjacent to the largest oil field in the United States. Temperatures can get quite cold here, and so buildings need to be heated – all of the buildings that are heated here must be built on stilts. If they weren’t, the heat from the buildings would melt the permafrost and turn the ground around the buildings into a bog!
